Solar PL2208 8-Amp Pro-Logix Automatic Battery Charger

Pro-Logix is headquartered in Kansas, and provides the smartest of the smart battery chargers. Pro-Logic chargers won't jumpstart your car, but their microprocessor based circuitry will assure your battery is charged optimally.

There's a big difference between the conventional battery charges of a few years ago and a 'Smart Charger'. Both types charge a battery, but smart chargers do it without shortening the battery's life. We sell the two best-of-breed brands, CTEK and Pro-Logix. We've provided a write-up below to help you understand their differences.

The CTEK and Pro-Logix products are neck-and-neck for properly handling lead-acid, Glass Matt, GEL, and MK batteries. While CTEK tagerts the home user, Pro-Logic markets to the fleet managers who want to treat the equipment right.

The Pro-logix has two primary advantages over the competition:
1) Higher amps
2) Stow-away handles

The disadvantage over the CTEK (in our opinion):
1) Not suitable for permenent mounting to the vehicle (CTEK is much smaller with mounting flanges).
2) Doesn't come with a set of 'quick disconnect' wires (which is important for 'maintenance charging' to some users)

So, in a nutshell, the CTEK chargers are the better choice for a 'maintenance' charger. The Pro-Logix is the way to go if a faster charge rate is the priority and you tend to transport your charger around alot (those stow-away handles are nice!).

A few things to consider:
While higher amps usually means a quicker charge, the Pro-Logic smart circuitry assures 'too much' will never happen. And, unlike the CTEK (which is a great unit BTW), Pro-Logix chargers read the outside temperature at all times and adjust the charge rate.

Lastly, while not marketed as such, the Solar Pro-Logix battery chargers are perfectly able to be left connected as a maintenance charger indefinitely. It's just that the customer who wants the higher amp capacity isn't likely to dedicate it as a maintenance charger (as they might the CTEK).

Here's the Spec's from Solar, though we've taken the liberty of re-writing some of them for clarity:

For use on Batteries with Amp Hours of 8-60 or with Reserve Minutes of 0-90 (meaning, ATV through SUVs sized batteriess). You should only consider Pro-Logix's 12 or 16 amp models for heavy equipment type batteries.

Maximum Charge Rate: 8 amps

Optimized for charging the small batteries found in motorcycles, lawn tractors, all automotive and marine, etc.

Active Filtering Technology (AFT) is ideal for small batteries, avoiding indiscriminate pushing of power. AFT simply feeds the power in a manner best for that particular battery.

The charging clamps (handles) are designed for use on post or side-mounts, whether motorcycle or automotive batteries. The clamps can be wound and stowed away for convenience and use stranded copper cable, with PVC coating for safety.

Automatic Operation:
Just connect the charger, choose your battery size and the charger determines if it's a Gel, Glass, MK, or convential battery! No guess-work required. Reverse polarity and short-circuit auto-shutdown for 100% protection of the charger and your battery.

Quad-Phase Charging Process:
Designed to enhance energy absorption and restore battery reserve capacity (meaning, to a small extent, this charger can rejuvenate a tired battery). Unlike the competition, desulfation is performed by the Pro-Logix charger during the first phase to reduce heating and minimize resistance. This feature alone may make the Pro-Logix the better choice!

Versatile Charging:
Compatible with Conventional, Maintenance Free, AGM, Gel Cell, Deep Cycle and Marine batteries.

A/C Input Compensation:
Uses a switching power supply to isolate AC variances from the battery.

Temperature Compensation:
Smart circuitry senses ambient temperature and adjusts charging rate/voltage automatically.

Smart Clamp Technology:
Provides reverse polarity protection, eliminates sparking and protects against many forms of operator error.

Sealed Aluminum Case:
Keeps dust and debris out of the charger for durability and a longer life! Include a nice handle for portability.
